About snowboard.vegas

An independent guide to skiing and snowboarding within driving distance of Las Vegas. No resort pays for it and none of them checks it.

Who makes this

snowboard.vegas is made in Las Vegas by the snowboard.vegas team, part of a small network of independent Las Vegas sites. snowboard.vegas is an independent, unofficial guide made by the snowboard.vegas team. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Lee Canyon, Mountain Capital Partners, Brian Head Resort, Eagle Point Resort, Big Bear Mountain Resort, Mammoth Mountain, Arizona Snowbowl, or any shop mentioned on this site. We don't use resort logos, and we don't sell lift tickets, rentals or lessons. When a page says “buy,” the link goes to the resort or shop that sells it.

Where the numbers come from

Each kind of fact has one place we take it from, and we don't mix them up.

  • Weather. The forecast on the conditions page loads straight from the National Weather Service's public forecast service for the grid point at the Lee Canyon base area. Your browser fetches it when you open the page, and the page shows the time the NWS issued it. We don't edit it, round it or add our own predictions.
  • Snow report, open lifts and webcams. These belong to the resort, so we link to them rather than copy them. A copied snow report is wrong within hours.
  • Prices and opening days. Only from the resort or shop's own site, with the date we read it. Lift tickets at Lee Canyon and Brian Head change price with demand, so we quote the floor the resort advertises and tell you where to see the real price for your day.
  • Roads and chain rules. From the Nevada Department of Transportation, the Nevada Revised Statutes and, for Utah, UDOT. We never tell you a road is safe. We tell you where to check.
  • Snow history. From the National Weather Service Las Vegas office's published records.
  • Drive distances. Computed from the Strip with OSRM, an open-source router running on OpenStreetMap data, and labelled as such. Traffic, weather and chain checkpoints all add time.

How a shop gets listed

A rental shop appears only if its own website says it rents the gear we list, and we note the date we read it. Nobody pays to be listed. We don't use star ratings from other sites, and we don't contact shops for discounts. If you run a shop and something about you is wrong, email us and we'll fix it or take it down.

What we won't do

We don't give avalanche, backcountry or road-safety verdicts. The Spring Mountains are Forest Service land and conditions there change fast; the Forest Service, the resort's ski patrol and NDOT are the people to listen to. We'll point you to them.

Corrections

Found a mistake, a dead link or a price that's changed? Email hello@snowboard.vegas with the page and what's wrong. We'd rather fix it the same day than leave it up.
